My Life in Films is a small charity based in Richmond that helps people with dementia through filmmaking. They do this by creating free life story films that celebrate the person’s life and shift the focus away from their illness.
The films are for the families private use, and are made up of their photographs and home videos, interviews with the person with dementia and their friends and family, all set to their favourite music tracks. They cover the main events and ‘chapters’ of the person’s life, from childhood to present day. The films aren’t just a wonderful, positive way to reminisce with loved ones, but also an innovative care tool. The films can be shared with professional care workers to give them an insight into the person and promote person-centred care.
